What Are the Toughest Places in Town to Get a Reservation? Daily Meal Gets It Kind of Wrong.
by Admin on May.14, 2011, under San Francisco Resturaunts

The Daily Meal talked to someone at OpenTable to put together a list of the ten toughest places in San Francisco to get a reservation. The problem with their list? It’s wrong! It includes a number of well-known places around town (Zuni, Kokkari, Wayfare Tavern) with plenty of walk-in room, and easily getable reservations, at least on weeknights. And it neglects to include places where there really is no reservation to be had for weeks, and little option for walk-in. Case in point: We just tried to book a table at Wayfare Tavern on OpenTable for Friday May 20. The only thing available that night was 5 p.m., but if we waited a few days until Wednesday, May 25, we’d have our choice of multiple timeslots. We tried the same with Frances. The earliest available table? It’s in July. Cotogna? You’re looking at a 9:30 p.m. slot in early June, at best. Nice try, guys.

EaterWire: Shimo Now A Noodle House, Food Truck Crush, More
by Admin on May.14, 2011, under San Francisco Resturaunts
HEALDSBURG – The 5 porterhouse for four people wasn’t exactly killing it at Doug Keane’s Shimo, but his ramen was. So the restaurant has switched gears to become a noodle house with a create-your-own noodle bar. And lunch. There are also smaller Asian-inspired dishes like glazed pork belly and hamachi sashimi. If you still really want a steak you can get that too in smaller portions fit for one, or—at the most—two people. Wine country now officially has an izakaya. [ISSF]
B2B - SFist has a map of the liquor stores along the Bay to Breakers route, should you need that. [SFist]
FOOD TRUCKS – Next Friday an Off the Grid type thing called Food Truck Crush will start up at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. They’ll kick off with Curry Up Now, Three Twins, Suzie Q’s Lunch Box, The Rib Whip, Pizza Politana, and Sift Cupcakes. The plan is to do this every Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The producers who did Malcolm in the Middle and the Mill Valley Film Fest are behind this. Seriously. [EaterWire]
AL FRESCO – GrubStreet notes some new places where the eating is good outside: Bar Bocce (Sausalito), eVe (Berkeley), El Paseo (Mill Valley), The Sycamore, Jones and—opening later this month— Chambers Eat + Drink and Txoko. We’ll add the brand spanking new Piccino, which has room for twelve on the sunny side of the street. Now, how do we get the wind to stop? [GrubStreet]
