The Shutter: Mission Loc@l passes on a note…

by Admin on Dec.31, 2011, under San Francisco Resturaunts

The%20Summit%20Shutter.jpgMission Loc@l passes on a note on The Summit‘s (780 Valencia) website, stating that their last day in business will be January 28. Hopefully, it’s not the last of them: “The Summit SF is actively seeking new opportunities and partnerships that align with our values. Follow us @thesummitsf or thesummit-sf.com as we document the launch of The Summit 2.0.” As of now, we don’t know if chef Eddie Lau‘s Dux will carry on at the new location, or what exactly the reason is for this closure. We’ll update the story as appropriate. [The Summit via Mission Loc@l]

EaterWire: Dixie Preview Dinners, Radius CSAs, and Restaurant Hangover Cures

by Admin on Dec.31, 2011, under San Francisco Resturaunts

Guest%20Chef%20Oakland%20Dixie.jpgSNEAK PEEKS – The due date for Joseph Humphrey‘s highly anticipated Dixie is still TBD, but chef wrote Eater last night to say that he’ll be doing teaser dinners at Oakland’s Guest Chef from Jan. 3 to the 15th. It’ll be a two-course fixed price dinner (with a few extras) for /person. Dixie’s future wine director Matt Turner will be there pouring wines too. Reserve your spot here. [EaterWire]

CSAS – Just in time for your renewed January vegetable attempts, Radius chef Chris Geremia will begin offering a weekly CSA farm box next week. Pick-up will be at Radius on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and all of the other details are right here on the website. [EaterWire]

QUOTE OF THE DAY - “For this new year, I want a second belly like a cow. I have figured that my favorite thing to do is to eat, and my teeth are sharp, and my jaws are strong, and my appetite is insatiable. So, the only thing stopping me from eating all the time is the space in my stomach. Starting January 1st I will manifest a second cow-like stomach into my body so I can continue to do what I love, unhindered.” —Ubuntu‘s Aaron London on his New Year’s resolution. [R29]

CHEF SHUFFLES – Just over four months after Bauer dropped two stars on Bluestem Brasserie, executive chef Sean Canavan is out. No word yet on his new post, but Inside Scoop reports that pastry chef James Ormsby isn’t going anywhere, and Canavan’s replacement has almost been nailed down. [ISSF]

NEW YEAR’S DAY SOS- Finally here are some places to get jelly donuts, home fries with cheese and breakfast burritos to distract you from those Jan. 1 hangovers. You are also more than welcome to try these things sans headache. Bon Appetit and Happy New Year.

You Can Now Cease Questioning How Long Does It Take To Get A Passport Fast

by Admin on Dec.29, 2011, under Uncategorized

People who need to travel urgently can often find that their passport is out of date. Sometimes they have lost it. Wondering how long does it take to get a pasport does not provide you with a new one or speed up your travel plans. The answer to this question can also depend on several factors. For example, the numbers of people applying for this document will influence the speed of turnover at any point of issue. Costs that you are prepared to pay will also determine how soon one can be in your hand. The method that you chose to apply will also have a bearing on time frames.

Peak Travel Times

It is a known fact that the travel industry is busier at particular times of the year. The number one time for people to take to the skies, roads, railways and by sea is at Christmas. Any other holiday time sees the number of applications for passports rise. This has an effect on the time that it takes for issue.

Estimated Time

Any agency that processes these applications gives a general time frame of six weeks. This is an estimate for postal applications. At times when there is a large amount of people looking for the same thing, this can be extended for up to eight weeks.

Application

There are some things that you can do to make sure you get yours on time. Fill out the application form well. This may seem like an obvious point, but spare a thought for the people who are processing applications. With hundreds to get through at peak times of the year, those that are well laid out will be quickly processed. The application for renewing United States passport is much different.

Documentation

Supplying all of the relevant information can also help turnaround times. Making sure that everything you are asked for is included will ensure that your application is not returned or put on hold. The right size photos will also be helpful.

Expedited Services

It is now possible to obtain this document in twenty-four hours. Using expediting services will mean that you can help your case by supplying documentary evidence to show the need for urgent issue. Be aware that this is considered a special service. Expect to pay a sum somewhere in the region of hundreds of dollars.

Proper Forms

If you can locate and get to an agency office, you will also be able to get this document in one day. Bringing everything that you need and paying the appropriate fee will be prerequisites. The normal fees do not apply for this service, so be prepared to pay extra.

Leslie SbroccoMy name is Leslie Sbrocco and I’m the host of Check, Please! Bay Area. Each week, I will be sharing my tasting notes about the wine the guests and I drank on set during the taping of the show. I will also share some wine tips with each episode.

2009 Jim Barry “The Cover Drive” Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra, Australia
A special area in South Australia, Coonawarra has red soil that produces noteworthy Cabs known for their elegant, snappy style with a hint of minty aromas. This affordable wine is a winner (and the label’s ode to cricket is, too). Flexible enough to enjoy with foods from cheese to roast chicken to grilled beef.

2010 MF Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California
What a value. You’d be hard pressed to find a Chardonnay at this price that beats the quality. Hailing from superstar Russian River, it should be twice the price.

2009 Arista “Two Birds Vineyard” Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, California
A splurge-worthy wine from a top, yet still undiscovered, star of Pinot Noir. This limited-production wine is an homage to the owners and encompasses the density, complexity, and intensity that defines the best of California Pinot.
